Trader Vic's son-of recipe to the Doctor Funk family, the absinthe is dropped and a Demerara overproof float steps in for the medicinal bite.

Ingredients

  • fresh lemon juice (0.5 oz)
  • fresh lime juice (0.5 oz)
  • demerara syrup (0.5 oz)
  • grenadine (0.25 oz)
  • black-blended overproof rum (0.5 oz)
  • black pot still unaged Jamaican rum (2 oz)
  • crushed ice (1 cup)
  • soda water (1 oz)
  • mint sprig (1)
  • lime shell (1)

Instructions

  1. In a shaker combine fresh lemon juice, fresh lime juice, demerara syrup, grenadine, black-blended overproof rum, and black pot still unaged Jamaican rum.
  2. Add crushed ice and shake hard until chilled.
  3. Pour unstrained into a highball and top with soda water.
  4. Garnish with a mint sprig and the spent lime shell.
